In Catan, players take on the role of settlers arriving on a newly discovered island rich in resources. Each turn, the dice determine which terrain produces resources, allowing players to collect lumber, brick, grain, wool, and ore. These resources can then be used to build roads, settlements, and cities, or to purchase development cards that provide additional advantages. Because no player can produce everything they need, trading with other players is an important part of the game, creating plenty of opportunities for negotiation and strategic deals.
Where you build is just as important as what you build. Players compete for the most productive locations and expand their networks across the island, while trying to secure access to the resources they need. The Robber can disrupt resource production, while special achievements such as Longest Road and Largest Army provide additional ways to earn victory points. Players must constantly balance expanding their territory, upgrading settlements, collecting resources, and responding to their opponents’ plans.
The first player to reach 10 victory points wins the game. The 6th Edition retains the classic Catan gameplay while featuring refreshed artwork, updated components, and a clearer presentation. With a combination of resource management, trading, negotiation, strategy, and a little luck from the dice, Catan offers a different experience every time you play.
