Create colourful connections and outscore your opponents in Ingenious, an abstract tile-laying strategy game by Reiner Knizia. Place tiles to build matching colour lines, score points in multiple colours, and carefully manage your lowest-scoring colour to stay in contention.

In Ingenious, players take turns placing tiles made up of two coloured symbols onto a shared board. When you place a tile, each coloured symbol scores based on the matching symbols it connects to in a straight line. The more matching symbols you connect, the more points you earn, making the position of every tile an important decision.
The clever part is that your score is tracked separately for each colour. At the end of the game, your lowest-scoring colour determines your final score, so simply building up one colour while neglecting another can leave you with a surprisingly weak result. Players therefore need to create strong connections while also keeping their entire scoring board balanced.
You also need to consider how your placement affects the shared board and the opportunities available to your opponents. A move that gives you a large score may simultaneously open up an even better position for someone else. With straightforward rules but plenty of strategic depth, Ingenious is a thoughtful abstract game about spatial planning, scoring efficiency, and making every placement count.
