In Lost Cities – The Board Game, players lead groups of explorers on expeditions to discover five legendary lost cities. Each expedition follows a different coloured route, and players must carefully play cards in ascending order to move their adventurers forward. The further an expedition progresses, the greater its potential rewards—but beginning an expedition also carries a risk, since early steps can cost you points.
On your turn, you play a card to one of the expedition paths or discard a card, then draw a replacement. As your expeditions develop, you can encounter event tiles that provide special advantages, including artefacts, additional Victory Points, or opportunities to move your adventurers more quickly. Players therefore need to decide which expeditions are worth pursuing and which should be abandoned before they become too costly.
The game combines card management, risk-taking, and strategic planning. Starting too many expeditions can spread your resources too thin, while being overly cautious may leave you without enough opportunities to score. With several paths competing for your attention and events that can change your plans, Lost Cities – The Board Game captures the excitement of an archaeological race while adding a shared board and additional tactical elements.
