In Machi Koro, you become the mayor of a small Japanese town with a big ambition: transform it into a thriving city. Each player begins with a few basic establishments and four major landmarks that need to be developed. On your turn, roll one or two dice and check which establishments are activated by the result. Activated buildings generate income, allowing you to collect coins and invest in new businesses.
The different establishments provide income in different ways. Some earn money on your own turn, while others can generate income when another player rolls the appropriate number. This means that even when it isn’t your turn, you may have opportunities to earn coins—and your opponents’ rolls can sometimes help your city grow.
As your city develops, you must decide which establishments to purchase and how to balance reliable income with more specialised strategies. The ultimate goal is to be the first player to complete all four landmarks. With straightforward dice rolling and card-building mechanics, Machi Koro is easy to learn but offers plenty of decisions about investment, probability, and building an efficient city.
